URSA Celebrates Sheila Byrne
In Celebration of the life of Sheila Janet Byrne (1957-2010), staff and clients of Universal Rehabilitation Service Agency (URSA) are making a donation to the Calgary Drop-In & Rehab Centre.
Sheila had a successful career, a marriage, and two children. She attended the University of Calgary and SAIT finishing with a degree in Political Science and a certificate of Journalism. Life for Sheila was successful and what many people wish for. As time passed, Sheila found herself addicted to prescription drugs, alcohol, and suffering from a severe mood disorder. Sheila’s marriage ended and she then began living at the Drop-In. Soon after, she suffered from a drug induced stroke leaving her with a brain injury. The turning point for Sheila was when she accepted her situation and through the support of Southern Alberta Brain Injury Society (SABIS) and URSA, Sheila was able to reconnect with her children and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Sheila passed away on November 3, 2010 on Salt Spring Island, BC. She will always be remembered as a generous and caring spirit who brightened the lives of others.
