A gentleman stopped by the Calgary Drop-In & Rehab Centre (DI) Day Office, requesting to speak to someone.
He introduced himself as Martin. He was on his way to PEI, and needed to stop by the DI before he caught his bus.
He told me about his wonderful wife and the house waiting for him in PEI.
I asked Martin what I could do for him, waiting for the usual request of a meal, laundry or quiet spot to crash before his trip. He said he didn’t need anything, he just wanted to say thank you to DI staff, volunteers, and donors. He let me know that he used our services 17 years ago. He was a guy down on his luck, and The DI helped him get back on his feet.
I just wanted to share the news of my meeting with Martin, as a reminder to all staff, volunteers, and donors that what you do is important.
