Employment Services

Employment Services, formerly known independently as the Casual Labour Office and the Career Training Initiative, combines over 25 years of staffing experience and employment training to fulfill the needs of employers and employees. This unification of experience and knowledge contributes to Employment Services’ vision of providing opportunities for people to rebuild their lives through staffing, training, and support.

At Employment Services Staffing, we have the resources to help you with more than just a job.

Employment Services Training & WoodWorks

Employment Services Training provides free training for low-income and homeless Calgarians to gain the essential skills and certifications needed for employment in today’s competitive workforce. There are 3 Employment Services Training programs offered:

All students will also have access to Employment Services Staffing for temporary and permanent work opportunities.

Free 3-Week Employment Training

The 3-Week Employment Training program is a holistic approach to employment preparation. It is an intensive program that gives 14 students the opportunity to network and work together to achieve success.

The four components of the program include Employment Strategies, Life Skills, Computer Training and Industry Certifications. Equal amount of time is spent on all four components of the course.

To apply, fill out Part 1 of the Employment Training Application Form, print out the form and either drop it off at the main floor security desk of the DI or fax it in to us at 403-234-0677. Call 403-699-8283 to confirm your fax was recieved.

Classroom training covers a variety of subjects

Forklift training is included during the three week program.

  • Flag Person Training (ACSA)

Free Evening Online Certifications

For those who cannot commit to the full time 3 week Employment Training” to “For those who are only interested in certifications, the DI offers evening online certification on a first-come-first-serve basis. These are offered every Tuesday and Wednesday from 4:30pm-8:30pm. For any questions, please contact us at 403-699-8283 or ESTintake@thedi.ca.

Free Certification – Only Forklift, First Aid and CSTS

The DI also offers stand-alone Forklift, First Aid and CSTS courses once every month. These are high demand courses and require individuals to fill out Part 3 of the Application Form and either drop it off at the main floor security desk of the DI or fax it in to us at 403-234-0677. Call 403-699-8283 to confirm your fax was recieved. Priority is given to low-income individuals and all are required to take a literacy test. WoodWorks – 12 Week Paid Training Program

WoodWorks is a 12-week, paid woodworking program offered through the Calgary Drop-In and Rehab Centre. Participants must be physically fit, between the ages of 16-35 and must have completed the full time 3-week program as a prerequisite. Individuals who would like to apply for WoodWorks must fill in both Part 1 and Part 2 of the Application Form and either drop it off at the main floor security desk of the DI or fax it in to us at 403-234-0677. Call 403-699-8283 to confirm your fax was received.
