Computer Training helps our clients get a head start

Computer Lab

The free-to-access Computer Lab consists of multiple computer terminals for low-income and homeless Calgarians.

The Computer Lab provides a safe and welcoming environment where individuals can connect to the information highway,  improve their skills and gain additional knowledge through free computer courses.

The Computer Learning Centre offers a variety of courses that cover everything you need to know in order to use a computer comfortably and confidently.

The classes are run on a drop-in basis – simply come to the computer lab at the start time and sign in to join the class. The classes that you wish to participate in are up to you, you can take all of them, or pick and choose the areas that you want to know more about.

Windows

No Experience? No problem! Learn all the basic skills you need to operate and use a computer. Includes how to create, open and find files and folders, how to use the mouse and keyboard, adjust windows sizes, and copy and delete files.

Microsoft Word

Start with the basics. Learn how to create a word document, save files and change the font and appearance of word documents. Improve your skills by learning the various aspects of Microsoft Word to edit and print pages, spell-check your documents and create professional resumes.

Microsoft Excel

There’s a spread sheet for that. Gain the knowledge and skills to create work sheets and tables to track just about everything. This class will show you all the skills you need to use excel from the basic features of the program, to entering data and creating formulas to analyze your entered information.

Microsoft PowerPoint

Presentations that WOW. Receive training on the basics of Microsoft PowerPoint and learn how to create interesting visual presentations that include text, pictures, tables and videos.

Webmail

Become an e-mail wizard. Learn how to use Webmail to send, receive and read e-mails. Gain the skills to create contacts, use the calendar feature and attach files to an e-mail message.

Introduction to the Internet & Internet Search

Join the information highway. Increase your understanding of the internet and how to use it to your full advantage. Learn where the internet came from, how it works and how to use it to make your life easier.

Computer Hardware Basics

It is a machine after-all. Delve into the physical aspect of your computer. Learn what each part of a computer does, how to assemble its various components and ensure that they run properly.

Installing Windows Operating System

But how does it run? Learn what Microsoft Windows does, why it is important for running your computer and how to install it on your own machine.

Computer Maintenance

Viruses and dust, Oh My! Computers need check-ups too. Gain the skills and knowledge to prevent and treat viruses, clean up your computers files and physically care for your computer to keep it running at its best.

Computer Practical Skills

Social Media, how does that work? Use your computer to its full potential by developing practical skills that will help you on a day-to-day basis. Explore and use applications such as Facebook, Kijiji, Drop-box and Google Maps.

Resume Workshop

Looking for a new job? Learn how to highlight your skills and experiences for the job you want.

 The Internet has helped our clients find jobs. Let the Internet lead you to a new career. Put the power of CLC to work for you and gain free access to the Internet, Email, Microsoft software, printer, scanner, telephone and fax machine.

 Online Certifications and Resume Building

 The Computer Learning Centre provides a Resume Building Workshop that aids clients in preparing a professional resume which will accurately convey each individual’s unique talents and assets to potential employers. This workshop is a prerequisite to the Employment Services Training’s Online Certification Evening Program. Clients must receive a letter stating that they have completed this resume building class to proceed in completing online certifications. This process ensures that all clients are prepared to add new qualifications to their resume, helping to ensure that they are the most equipped possible to utilize their training.

For clients who provide proof that they have completed the Resume Building Workshop, The Computer Learning Centre is available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 4:30-8:30pm for online ticket completion.

Friday (1:00 pm – 2:30 pm)

Resume Workhop – Tuesday & Wednesday (4:30 pm – 6:00 pm)

Open Lab:
Monday – Thursday (1:00 pm – 4:30 pm)
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday (6:00 pm – 8:30 pm)
Friday (2:30 – 4:30 pm)
Sunday (9:00 am – 11:30 am)

Online courses

 Gain access to free online training courses in a variety of subjects. We offer free courses in Microsoft programs, understanding the internet, computer basics, professional writing, presentation skills and managing workplace conflict.  We also offer courses in stress management, personal development, and setting and achieving goals.
