  6. Are computer/monitor/accessory donations tax deductible?

  7. Hi
Do you accept body lotions/ creams or unopened vitamins?

  8. I know of quite a few bikes that may be fine to ride right away, but some may need some minor tuning or new tires/tubes, etc.

Would you be able to use these?

They are located in the inner-city.

Ideally someone could come and have a look at which bikes would be suitbale and then the rest would be recycled for the metal.

    • Jimmie James says:

I used to be at the D.I. and they had a bike repair shop. they would take these old biks and refurbish/rebuild them and if you did some training in there they gave you a bike that would be yours. They still do this and it is a great program, with a great bicycle mechanic there teaching everyone the ins and outs of bike rebuilding. I am positive that they will take all and every thing that you have to offer, nothing goes to waste.

  9. Hello! Would you accept a used queen-sized mattress (with no box spring)? It doesn’t have any stains or specific problems, it’s just a bit old and we don’t have a use for it anymore. I was going to drive it to the dump (since there is no mattress recycling in Calgary), but if might be useful to you let me know and I will bring it to the Drop-in Centre instead.

    Thanks!

    • Jordan Hamilton says:

Hi Brandee, we would love your donation. Please drop it off at our loading dock, ringing the buzzer to alert our staff. Thank you for supporting the DI!

  10. Urban Squirrel says:

    Hi,

Are there donation bins other than the one at the centre itself? I can make it there but as I live in the NW, I was wondering if there are more convenient locations to drop off my donations.

    Thanks!

    • Jordan Hamilton says:

Hi Ms. Urban Squirrel, we do not have donations bins. Please bring yout donation to the DI at your convenience. We accept donations 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. We greatly appreciate your support. Thank you for helping homeless Calgarians.

  12. Hi. I’ve recently moved and have a lot of random things I’d like to donate but not sure if I can (maybe someone can use, instead of bringing it to the dump), such as:

    - dining table with 3 chairs
    - laptop (will DI clean out my hard drive, so my old files and personal info will be erased?)
    - laptop bag
    - mouse, keyboard
    - binders
    - books (novels)
    - kitchenware (knives, knife block, bowls, dishes, utensils, coffeemaker, dish rack, mugs, glasses)
    - cooler box
    - coffee table
    - boxing/punching bag on stand

Can pick-up be arranged if you would take all/most of the above things?

    Thanks!

    • Also have a little vacuum cleaner too, if it’s “donatable”…

    • Jordan Hamilton says:

Hi Helen, we would love to pick-up your donation. Please phone 403-699-8293 to arrange a pick-up time that is most convenient for you.Thank you for supporting the DI.

    • Thanks, Jordan.

I’ll sort everything out and give you a call when I’m ready. Does everything have to be all packed and ready to go, or do the people who pick up have to go through the items first?

Also will DI clean out my laptop hard drive before it is given to someone first, or do I have to clean it out myself?

      • Jordan Hamilton says:

HI Helen, please have your donation packaged and ready for our pick-up. We will erase all the data from your laptop before we give it to someone in need. Thank you for your support.

  13. Do you accept used scarves? Some of them still have tags, I think 1 is barely used.

  14. Sonja Lonson says:

Do you accept used books and magazines? What about puzzles?

  15. Do you accept used running shoes? I’m a member of a run club, and we are constantly replacing our shoes, and I don’t want to throw out the old ones…they’re still in good shape, just have lost some cushioning for the really long runs…

  16. One more question…we have 2 twin box springs, would you have need of those? One is brand new (they made us take it when we bought our kids’ new matress) the other is older but in fine shape, no mattresses though…

  17. Do you except mattresses for Donantion? I have a used Queen size matress and box spring that are still in very good shape.

  18. Hi,

Do you have a client who is in the process of moving to a place for his/her own and can use it? Or can you use it in one way or another?
    Thanks

    • Jordan Hamilton says:

  23. I would like to make some donations in honor of a loved one who’s motto in life was ” Love is all we need & some soup” We have donations in the form of blankets, clothing (kids and adults) and food donations… My question is this… does it actually go to the shelters or does it go to a thrift store?

    • Jordan Hamilton says:

Hi Jessica, thank you for helping others in need during your own period of need. The DI does not sell any donated items – all donations are provided, for free, to people in need. If you are interested in learning more about how your donation helps others, I would love to give you a tour of The DI. If you would like to arrange a tour, please email me at JordanH@thedi.ca. Thank you for your support.
